Alex Shaw
A true hero from Lodge Park School Corby 1957-1982
Falklands Conflict.
Words from his Mum Jean, written March 2007
Alex Shaw born 16th May 1957. Joined The Royal Marines when he was 17 and a half.
He
served in Ireland at 18, was there twice, came out when he was 21 and got
married. He got a job with the post office, while there he took an HGV test and
passed first time. We thought it was great however, he never used it anyway. He
decided to go back into the forces. He went into R.E.M.A. Became Lance Corporal.
Then he decided he wanted to go for a course in the 3 paras.
He had a son on January 19th, he was only 3 and a half months old when Alex went into the conflict. He had his 25th Birthday on the Canberra. His son was 25 on January just gone. The same age as Alex when he was killed.
It happened on 13th June at sunset on Sunday and unlucky for him and us the conflict finished the very next day, Monday 14th.
We were talking about having a party for him coming home as we did not find out until the Wednesday.
He
believed in what he was fighting for. He would have been disappointed if had not
gone, so in that sense we're very proud of him but in saying that we would still
rather have him here.
It's been a long time 25 years but it still hurts you never forget.
Mum, Dad & Susan his sister.
